Job Description:A Medical assistant has accountability for
providing care to patients in an ambulatory clinic setting. This
will involve caring for patients with acute and chronic needsHours:
Monday - Thursday 7:00 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. and 7:00 to noon on
Friday.The Cardiothoracic Surgery Department is a small heart team
that works closely together on the coordination of patient care to
provide the best experience.Performs general administrative and
patient care tasks in accordance with the Intermountain Scope of
Practice, and other established policies and procedures.Possesses
the ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically within a
multi- disciplinary care team.Greets and prepare patients for the
health care provider while maintaining a positive and caring
attitude.Attentive to patients needs, coordinates care, administers
care, and documents appropriately.Provides for patient safety and
protection of patient privacy rights by observing HIPAA
regulationsObtains and record patient information; vital signs,
height, weight, allergies, current medications, medical history,
and chief complaint, etc.Demonstrates knowledge of examination,
diagnostic and treatment room procedures.May be required to draw
and collect blood samples and prepare specimens for laboratory
analysis.Per Provider request, may perform routine tests including
but not limited to EKGs, hearing and vision screens.Schedules
patients for diagnostic testing and follow up as appropriate to
ensure completion of testing.Communicates test results to patients
and establish plan of care by phone or mail as directed by the
Provider.Documents patient plan(s) of care, tests and examination
results in the medical record as directed by the provider.Prepares,
clean and sterilize instruments and maintain equipment; stock
patient exam rooms while maintaining cleanliness and organization,
and dispose of contaminated items according to protocol.Administers
ordered medications and/or vaccines via oral, injection, topical,
rectal, ophthalmic, and/or inhalant administration.Escalates
non-routine issues, questions and/or concerns to the practice
manager and/or healthcare provider(s).Ensures safety
checklists/quality controls are completed as required.Demonstrates
sound judgment and composure with the ability to take appropriate
action in questionable or emergency situations.Promotes mission,
vision, and values of Intermountain Health, and abides by service
behavior standards.Performs other duties as assigned.Minimum
QualificationsRequiredHigh school diploma or equivalent is
requiredCurrent BLS Certification is required upon hire or within
60 days of hire upon approvalThree (3) months previous experience
within a healthcare setting is requiredSuccessful completion of
initial MA onboarding within 90 days, annual skills fair, and
in-services for site specific tasks is requiredAbility to
successfully function in a fast paced, service oriented
environmentStrong organizational skills and attention to detail and
accuracy is requiredPreferredGraduate from an accredited Medical
Assistant program is preferredSuccessful completion of an
Accredited National Certification Exam for Certified Medical
Assistants (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) is
preferredOne (1) year Medical Assistant experience is preferredTo
perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to
perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements list

care.Proficiency utilizing various computer software programs,
i.e.: Microsoft Office Suite, Electronic Health Records, as well as
the ability to learn applications relevant to the position.Physical
Requirements:Ongoing need for employee to see and read information,
labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment
and supplies.- and -Frequent interactions with patient care
providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally
communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information,
alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly
during emergency situations.- and -Manual dexterity of hands and
fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision
and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for
documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication
preparation, etc.- and -Expected to lift and utilize full range of
movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift,
and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of
varying weights, up to and including heavy items.- and -Need to
walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining
and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes
pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy
items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of
equipment, power cords on the floor, etc).- and -May be expected to
stand in a stationary position for an extended period of

range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate
